Location
Community of Madrid, Spain.
Date
June 2018 - July 2018
Description
The Autonomous Community of Madrid (CAM) is home to the fourth largest conurbation in Europe in terms of the city of Madrid and its metropolitan area, among other smaller cities, with almost: 6.5 million inhabitants, 10 million daily journeys (70% of which are by motorised means), 40.5% of which are made in private vehicles, as well as 45% of CO2 and greenhouse gas emissions that are no longer sustainable from road transport.
Given this scenario, air quality issues are a critical problem for both regional (CAM) and local (Municipality of Madrid) governments.
To comply with EU standards, in 2013 the CAM launched its Air Quality and Climate Change Strategy for 2013-2020 (Plan Azul +), which is subject to review during 2018 as new challenges arise, with electric mobility being one of its new main focuses for overcoming pollution. For all the above reasons, Evectra was told that it is developing an Action Plan to fully implement and develop electric mobility and its infrastructure in the Madrid region.
